Short Take CD Review: Randy Lee Riverie – “Farmhand Blues” – A Bold, Reflective Soundscape

By Curt Brown

To see the light of day on October 17th, this generous 15-song collection from Randy Lee Riverie, his fourth solo outing, wholly satisfies.

With a cast of musicians including Randy Lee Riviere: Vocals & Guitar, Doug Lancio: Guitar, Bob Britt: Guitar, Michael Saint-Leon: Guitar, Harmonica, Mike Rojas: Keyboards, Robert Kearns: Bass, and Tom Hambridge: Drums, Percussion, Background Vocals, this superb undertaking was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Nashville, Tennessee.

Riviere, who hails from Montana, had a hand in writing all the tunes here. And from cut one to cut 15, all are full-throttle doses of blues and roots rock, steeped in grit and soaked in whisky—this is music that hits like a freight train and lingers like smoke.

Riviere’s music is undeniably rooted in the blues, yet its reach extends far beyond. It flows seamlessly through blues-rock, rock, rocking country, and Americana—each style embraced with equal conviction. It’s that rare kind of versatility that satisfies across the board, rich in texture and soul.

You’ll want this one in your collection! Tremendous!
