Wyoming
Release Date: February 1, 2021
Wyoming is a 13-song album recorded at the Rock House in Franklin, Tennessee, with Kevin McKendree producing and contributing keyboards and guitar. The sessions also include James Pennebaker, Kenneth Blevins, David Santos, and Yates McKendree. Its songs draw on the American West, conservation, family, history, and the impact of development on the landscapes and communities that inform Riviere’s work.
Album Narrative
Wyoming was my first album under my own name: Randy Lee Riviere … what a concept!
When I first met and worked with Kevin McKendree back on the Wilderness Record, I said I wanted to get back to his ‘Rock House’ and do a record with him. Well, it finally happened over 10 years later on ‘Wyoming’.
Wyoming has tons of flavors and Kevin did as super job, and I got to work with another great group of guys:
Vocals and guitar: Randy Lee Riviere
Drums: Kenneth Blevins
Bass: David Santos
Guitars, piano and organ: Kevin McKendree
Pedal Steel, violin and guitar: James Pennebaker
Yates McKendree: Guitar

Time is in your eyes
What you feel
On this countryside
Gold grass under Devil sun
But in a white flash
We were on the runWhy tear it down?
This old town
Just got run downChorus
Now I’m back on this ground
Looking aroundInstrumental
Time is in my eyes
Green fields
With concrete sidesIron made these rails
Cold steel
Hammers and nailsWhy tear it down?
Our old town
Just got run downChorus
This is our town
Don’t let them bring it downYou can’t take these bloody hands
This is my townBridge
Where I got my first kiss
My first love
Got faith from above
Heart break
Hard love
Soft hands
She was belovedChorus
How does it feel?
How does it feel?
They can’t take these bloody hands
They can’t take these bloody hands© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

Been around on the Clock
Man, we’re talking non stop
What I need is a good long holiday
Work in town making news
For people who need another point of view
What I need is a good long holiday
Keep your eyes on your station
Get your mind off vacation
Keep your eyes on your station
That little nervy man saidCattle know which way to go
They just follow where all the others go
What I need is a good long holiday
In a crowd all the time
Like an ant on a watermelon rind
What I need is a good long holidayKeep your eyes on your station
Get your mind off vacation
Keep your eyes on your station
That nervy man saidWa ooo Wa ooo Wa ooo Wa ooo
Keep your eyes on your station
Get your mind off vacation
Keep your mind on your stationMy baby knows
How it goes
And where we’re headed
A warm wind blows
Now we’ve got a good long holidayDon’t have a dime
Just lots of time
These old friends are really friends of mine
Now we’ve got a good long holidayKeep your eyes off that station
It was a bad situation
Get your mind off that station© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

I build fences with my hands
Like my brother and my dad
Did before
I took an oath
That had no words
Just these arms and legs
And handsAnd we would stand up alone
UnknownBut they would run
Straight and strong
But depend
On someoneThey wouldn’t know
Our work or names
Or careBut they’d run safe and strong
But depend on
SomeoneWe took an oath
That had no words
Just these arms and legs
And handsWe took that oath
That had no words
Just our arms and legs
And hands© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

Sand is in his hair, and in his eyes, and all over everything
Stains are on his jeans, on his walls, and there ain’t nobody else to blameGod made little boys it’s plain to see
To let them run, make their noise and be freeThe sun is in his eyes on a pop fly but he’s ready for anything
The biggest fish he’s seen in his life took all his line
And he’ll never be the sameGod made little boys its plain to see
To let them run, make their noise, and be freeThe lake is always cold, but like he doesn’t know, he jumps right in anyway
Our road is a half mile long, but he runs it so strong
When he knows I’m on my way homeGod made little boys it’s plain to see
To let them run, make their noise and be freeIt’s our job to widen a young man’s eyes
Give them time to realize
It’s our job to make a manAnd it really hurts to see your young man cry
It really hurts when you realize
Your job is done© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

I don’t know which way I’m going
And I don’t know this road I’m traveling on
And I don’t know which way I’m going
But I know where it is that I come fromAnd this is what I want
Mother said stay the straight and narrow
And put a tie on Sunday morning
My father didn’t say too much of nothing
Just worked every day like the sunHe just said boy, go get what you want
Stood in line at Headquarters company
Did those long runs from dusk to dawn
Took those tests in rum and philosophy
Took them all on one by oneBut this is what I want

Roll on big brother
Run around my feet real slow
Let’s hear a song my mother
Sing it real loud
So we’ll all know
All I have has gone to sale
There ain’t no river at RiverdaleGo your way my sister
Cut a new path to muddy bay
Take a ride don’t cry
It won’t be long until you have something to sayAll I have has gone to sale
There ain’t no river at RiverdaleAll I have has gone to sale
There ain’t no river at RiverdaleAll I have has gone to sale
There ain’t no river at Riverdale© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

Fire is rolling down
Without a face
From another town
Another place
Fire is rolling down
On the lives of the innocent
What I am
Is what I feel
When love is torn
It never healsWhat I need
Is in the eyes
Of the innocentChorus
From Sioux Falls
To the waters
Of the Rio Grande
From Saint Lo
To the valleys of the FatherlandFrom Soochow
Through the heart of every son and girl
A mother’s love
Is the eighth wonder of the worldSnow is falling down
On her face
Cold is reaching around
This awful place
Snow is falling down
On the lives of the innocentWhat I am
Is what I feel
When love is torn
It never heals
What I need
Is in the eyes of the innocentRepeat Chorus

There’s blood on the water
Blood on the ground
Blood on this sidewalk
Blood all aroundThere’s blood in the leaves
That sing their ancient songs
There’s blood in the river
That’s rolling on and onChorus
Everywhere I go
Everything I know
All the words I say
It’s Dependence DayThere’s blood in the saddle
Blood on the ground
There’s blood in the Nations
With little love to be foundThere’s blood in the fields
And in the blisters on our hands
There’s blood on America
Across these hills and shining sandsChorus
Bridge
But you’d better watch out
For their crazy schemes
You’d better watch out
For their big money dream
Because there’s no doubt
Our blood will wash free© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

You say that I may have it your way
And your eyes are shining like I don’t know
You’re a river running and a flood is coming
And your eyes are shining like I don’t know
You’re gonna break my heartYou’re a sailor’s warning with a lower calling
And your eyes are burning like I don’t know
Dark clouds are forming and the wind is roaring
But your eyes are burning like I don’t knowYou’re gonna break my heart
You’re gonna break my heartI’m right on, right on about me
I’m right on, right on about meLike treading water, it just gets harder
Show me something that I don’t know
This tired old highway always ends up my way
Show me something that I don’t knowYou’re gonna break my heart
You’re gonna break my heartAnd I meet you over and over again
I meet you over and over again.© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

Grandfather taught me how to read the land
He’d talk about the flowers as he’d hold my hand
He said he saw an image where the clouds broke free
Of an empty village only he could see
Then he talked about red willows and our friends and foes
And turned and tell me what he thought I needed to know
There’s just one thing. Her name was Red Water and she touched the sun
Earth Mother’s daughter with a heart I had won
When spring turned to summer … we broke free
From the grip of the elders so they all could see
We were earth, sky, and water, tall grass and trees
Down the ancient trails our people would have what they needThere’s just one thing
There’s just one thingUp on Iron Mountain when a moon lit the land
There was big fire I didn’t understand
They came across our prairie like a flock of crows
Brought clouds of smoke and ashes only they could know
In the heart of our families was blood that ran free
Now Grandfather’s vision I could seeThere’s just one thing
Red Rain
There’s just one thing
Hard Rain
We’ll never be the same
Red Rain
We’re gonna bring Red Rain© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere

Hey misty dawn
Tell me when you’re coming home
I’ve been waitingFor so long
And this old sun is burning strong
But the nights are coldAnd the stars are gone
What once was right seems so wrong
And the land’s gone quiteAnd the birds are gone
I no longer hear their morning songs
I miss the morningCome back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my … lifeHey misty dawn
You make these days get along
Toward tomorrowAnd when spring comes
And this old earth bangs its drums
For us to followAnd toss some seeds
Grow up what we really need
And I need youThat sunny smile
Even if it lasts just a little while
It brings a new dayCome back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my life
Come back into my … lifeHey misty dawn
Tell me when you’re coming home
I’ve been waiting© 2020 Randy Lee Riviere
